Course Information
18-757: Network Management and Control
Units:
12Description:
This course provides an understanding of the principles of broadband networks. The broadband networks differ from currently existing communication networks in many aspects and these issues will be dealt with in the course. Broadband networks are designed to support many different services, ranging from low bandwidth (telemetry) to high bandwidth applications (digitized video). The course will cover the underlying concepts of the broadband networks, and expose the research problems in next generation networks. Many concepts (ATM, SONET, MPLS, high-speed switching architecture, high-speed network control, unified control plane (GMPLS), and optical networks) will be discussed. The course project will explore latest network technologies, design networking systems, and evaluate via simulation techniques.
