18-799M: Special Topics in Signal Processing: Embedded AI
This course is an introduction to the rapidly emerging field at the intersection of embedded systems and artificial intelligence. Starting with the fundamentals of embedded system design, modeling and programming the course moves on to embedded system architecture, real-time OS, control and signal processing. Embedded applications of AI and techniques for data collection are introduced next with a view to deploying ML algorithms in embedded and IoT devices. Finally, issues around the design and optimization of user-oriented systems that span embedded devices, edge-computing and cloud services are addressed. There will be a lab/project component where students can experiment with hardware and software tools and apply algorithms to solve realistic problems.
