18-883C1: Special Topics in Energy Systems: Applied Smart Grid Telecoms




This course examines applications of standards for communications protocols to the digital substation in smart grids, covering relevant standards such as IEC61850. Participants will conduct assignments and a project employing co-simulation to explore the implementation and limitations of smart grids telecommunications.

Prerequisites: 18-618 OR 18-875 OR permission of instructor(students should have domain knowledge of power systems)In Fall 2019 this course is broadcast to the CMU-Africa campus. ECE Pittsburgh students attend classes synchronously with students in Rwanda.
