Units:

6

Description:

Spring 2023 Course Description:
This mini course examines the intersectional relationships between energy systems and
vital development agendas. Beginning with the history of electrification in sub??"Saharan
Africa, we explore the connectivity between energy, agriculture and food, healthcare,
mobility, job creation, economic growth, gender, and climate resilience. Understanding
these linkages is important for designing and effecting sustainable and appropriate energy
technologies, businesses, and policies. The course unpacks current case studies across
Eastern Africa, and introduces students to the latest frameworks, data, and tools for
analyzing impact. Students will also learn how to apply this interdisciplinary framing to
energy policy design. The course helps students develop and assess innovations for
Africa’s energy transition from the critical and necessary lens of multidimensionality.
