18-883L4: Special Topics in Energy Systems: Power Electronics Applications in Motion Control and Power Supplies

This course will review the requirements for power electronics in motion control and power supply design. We will consider design examples that show how to satisfy performance requirements and power quality/electromagnetic compatibility standards.

Students will learn the range of motion control and battery power applications that require power electronics. They will study the circuit topologies, design guidelines, and waveform characteristics, and try applying their knowledge to design a system of their choice and prove its suitability through simulation.

After completing this course, students will be aware of how to select components and design controlled power electronics for motion, mobile, and other applications.
