This course will cover all the details pertaining to developing small hydro systems. It includes mechanical aspects of the turbines, geological location, and related calculations. It is an important topic as Rwanda (and many Developing Countries) heavily rely on Small(and micro) hydro systems in Rural settings.
Learning objectives: Introduction to Fundamentals of Hydraulic Engineering, Understanding Water resource and its potential, Site evaluation methodologies for Small Hydro Electric Projects, Hydraulic Structures, Electromechanical Equipment, Environmental Impact and its mitigation, Economic Analysis as well as Administration Procedures
Outcomes: After completing this course, students should be able to:
- Take a site and understand its water resource
- Think about different options for Micro-hydro projects
- Choose necessary equipment
- Asses environmental impacts and mitigate them
- Run economic analysis
- Plan Administration Procedures
