18-448C: Special Topics in Embedded Systems : Introduction to Embedded Deep Learning

Units:

12

Description:

Spring 2024 Description: Machine learning and robotics have made great strides in recent times. This course aims to combine the two topics in a fun and hands-on course that is broadly accessible and in which discovery is encouraged. The topics include machine learning, computer vision, and robot operating systems. Software implementations include learning the robot operating system (ROS2), convolutional neural networks for object detection and computer vision techniques. Students will learn how to develop a miniature self-driving robot based on the Jetson Orin Nano platform and the RealSense camera for vision. Since this is a pilot course, students will be encouraged to discover their own robotic applications tasks. Prior machine learning or robotics knowledge is not required. However, strong C/Python programming skills and sense of wonder are strongly preferred.
